The D-League Division is our Developmental Division which is focused on teaching our players the fundamentals of basketball with an emphasis on building their skills with repetition, drills and game simulations.
Our coaches are trained to focus most of their time on making sure the players learn the technique and foundations of various parts of the game of basketball.
Coaches:
All Coaches must complete the following in order to be a YBA Coach:
- A background check
- CPR & First Aid Certification
- Blood Born Pathogen Course
- Child Abuse Prevention Course
- YMCA & YBA Mandatory Trainings and Meetings
- Coaches must also have some basketball knowledge and skills
- Must attend all practices and games
- Willing to be a positive mentor to kids
Clinics:
The D-League Division starts each season with clinics where we teach in large and small groups to help each player break down concepts and skills of the game. The clinics start in October and last until December from 10:00am - 12:30pm on Saturdays.
D-League Draft:
The D-League draft will take place in either December or January. Each team will be formed and balanced according to skill so that we can create parity throughout the division for competitive team play.
Uniforms:
Each player will receive a YBA uniform and is responsible for maintaining and taking good care of it. Uniforms are not to be altered in anyway and they must be worn at all games. If a player does not have a complete uniform, they will NOT be allowed to play in the game for that day.
Practice:
D-League Teams will practice one day a week from the following days only. Monday or Wednesday or Friday. Times will vary depending on the coaches availability but usually they will start at either 6:00pm or 7:30pm. Practice lasts 1.5 hours (approximately). Players must bring their own basketball to each practice and be dressed in shorts, t-shirt and gym shoes for all practices.
Games:
D-League Games will be played on Saturdays once teams have been formed. Times will vary from week to week. Start times of games will be at either 10:00am, 11:30am or 1:00pm. A schedule will be issued and posted at a later time.
Playoff & Championship Games:
Playoff games will be played after the season games end which is usually during the month of April. Season team standings will determine how each team is seeded for the playoffs. Playoff games will be played on weekdays and saturdays. The Championship game will be played on a saturday.
All-Star Games:
The All-Star games are composed of various selected players from each team within the division to form an All-Star team. They will play one game to see which All-Star team will be victorious. The coaches must select players based on various categories like skill, attendance, games, how well the player demonstrates good sportsmanship on and off the court, academic progress, teamwork, etc.
Annual Awards Banquet:
Each year we end our season on a high note with the Annual YBA Awards Banquet. Each participant will receive an award for participating in the YBA program. This family event is exciting for everyone as we acknowledge not just the players but also our student athletes and volunteers too. So invite the whole family and bring your camera as we celebrate all of our amazing student athletes in the YBA program.
